The Origin of The Word Lord

The word Lord and the Bible

The word Lord appears in the English bibles but it is a translation from the word Greek word Kurios, and Hebrew symbols YHWH, Elohim, and Latin word Adonis. Using a multi-lingual dictionary or concordance when studying can help to determine if the meaning of words have changed with the translations. The word Lord is an English word, it is a title not a name.

The meaning of the word Lord

The Bible is a translation of ancient text, the word Lord is an English word, it is not Hebrew, it is not Greek, neither is its origin African or Asian. The original meaning of the word is used to define the position or job of a human ruler.

Genesis 42:30 Joseph brother of Israel is called lord of the land and in the Greek this word is identified as Kurios. Even though this word is lowercase form the same word is used in the Greek for lower case lord as Upper case Lord.

Genesis 2:15 The writer uses the term Lord God and the Greek definition of the word Lord is Kurios thehos (soheth)    T (Theta original t sound), E (Epsilon), O(omicron) and (S) sigma

The Lord God or God

The name of God or the Lord God is different. The ancient people identified God as the highest ruler in the land and at times the great spirits (or energies) that created the universe. The ancient names for the great spirit were Eloi, Allah or the Ka. The world Lord is always used to describe a human ruler or who is revered as the image of the Gods of Genesis 1.
